New TV Needed - First time LCD buyers - Help!

Options
OK, so the TV out neighbour gave us is loosing the will to live and we are needing to buy a new one soon.

I have been looking on the t'interweb but I get so muddled with them and can't figure out the differences between the sets and the prices!

So, I need one I guess at least 37inch (our living room is a good 16msq). and reliable with the usual good picture and good sound. We don't have a surround sound system or anything - bit too fiddly for us and our 3 crazy kids.

Price? £500 or under.

Anyone seen any good deals or have any hints or tips for us? We have never had a flat screen tv so it is all new to us ha ha :o. Thanks!
You're my wife now Dave.......

LED is newer technology than LCD if you didn't know. Richer sounds might be a place to start.

I've not bought a tv recently but £500 is a decent budget for a tv of that size these days.

37" is not the most common size so will limit your options but a lot of the led TVs now have almost non existent frames so you could get a 40-42" that will take up the same space as an older 37"

It would be worth a trip to a local Currys to have a look at what is around. Then go home and look up reviews and better prices on any models you like.

If you want better sound but don't want speakers everywhere have a look at sound bars. Some are on offer with TVs so still not much over your budget.

No, didn't know - don't know what the difference is either TBH - that is how "in the dark" we are about all this modern technology ha ha.

I had a look on their website - but I really am lost with it all - I see some that are bigger for same price as a smaller one - but seem to be the same specs... am I missing something? Or is it just some brands are more expensive/better?

    thanks:-)

Supermarkets often have very cheap tvs, such as 3D versions for £299 but be warned, they usually aren't very good, far better to stick to a known make like Samsung,Panasonic,LG ....plus plenty others

Go for John Lewis. Their TV with 5 year warranty and a few model from Richard Sound have it as well.
  • LED TVs tend to have a better picture quality but come at a higher price becuase of it, whereas LCD are a more budget option.

This might help with the LED vs LCD. Go to currys and have a look at what they have on show, make a note of of any models you like the look of, dont get sucked into buy 1 there and then, come home and do your research on the models you made a note of.

    *** LED's are LCD***

LED is the back lighting older screens have florescent tubes but they are both LCD -
