The MoT rules on brake pad thickness:
the fail ref in the manual is 3.5.f. and states: f. a brake lining or pad insecure or less than 1.5mm thick at any point

So 1.5mm below the limit makes no sense! They only need to be greater then 1.5mm to pass the test.

The MOT requirements on most components is far lower than service (manufacturers) limits. For example, brake discs are not measured during a test and in reality would have to be either cracked, completely broken or virtually paper thin to fail.

what car is it because everyone is jumping the gun with regards to the brake price, all we know it could be special brake pads (unlucky i know).

without knowing a bit more details you can't get good advice on regards to the prices.

True, try getting pads done on a impreza with brebo brakes. Although if it was something special/high value I wouldn't be taking to Halfords though.
Bedroom Tax / Spare room subsidy / Housing Benefit Reduction - It's the same thing, get over it.
  • Thanks for all your replies,

The car is a Peugeot 308. I've since taken it to another garage who have advised that the brake pads are fine.

Halfords removed all my locking wheel nuts and haven't provided me with the lock key. They said that they had to break and chisel one of the nuts off to get the wheel off, rendering all the other nuts useless.
This new garage is replacing them for me for £40 instead of the £55 quoted by Halfords.

It will certainly be the last time i use Halfords

    Thanks again

    Nicola
