I can;t see how they can class the dining room as an extra bedroom, what about a living room or a kitchen...christ any room in a house could be classed as a bedroom. lol0

I really don't know where the link is, I read it on one of the forums some time ago, the only reason why I know it is true, is because my niece has an old style house she is renting, where everyone else have had there front room, and middle room knocked into one, they are not affected, but hers is still two rooms, so now she has been told that she will have to pay the under occupancy on the middle room, that is usually used as a dining room. This only affects people that are claiming LHA or housing benefit, if you pay your own rent or own the house, you are not affected.0 -
do they say spare bedroom or just spare room though?0

Well if this is the case I'm really surprised that I haven't been informed that I have to pay the extra bedroom tax as I have a separate dining room......time will tell I guess.I really don't know where the link is, I read it on one of the forums some time ago, the only reason why I know it is true, is because my niece has an old style house she is renting, where everyone else have had there front room, and middle room knocked into one, they are not affected, but hers is still two rooms, so now she has been told that she will have to pay the under occupancy on the middle room, that is usually used as a dining room. Where there is a room that has a separate entrance, as far as they are concerned it can be made into a bedroom. We seem to be going back in time, it wont be long before whole families will be expected to live in one room, just like it was in the old days.0 -
I think I will wait until I see it in black and white, once the envelope lands on my doormat. Nothing seems to be coming up on this when I run a google search. Plenty people making comments along the lines of put a table and chairs in the spare bedroom and call it and dining room, to try and avoid the bedroom tax :rotfl:0

I'm really surprised if this is happening, an organisation like shelter has no information on it.Where there is a room that has a separate entrance, as far as they are concerned it can be made into a bedroom. Can people please stop posting things that are not true. If you have a tenancy agreement which states the property has 2 bedrooms then its 2 bedrooms. If the dining room is not counted on your tenancy agreement as bedroom then its not a bedroom.
Do you guys know that the council's have got this information from the Housing Associations/councils directly?:rotfl:0 -
it is another issue though.
what is the difference between one person having a 1 bed flat with a dining room and another having a 2 bed flat?
obviously just what the council/HA choose to call it i suppose0 -
