  • My painter showed me a tip I have used ever since - put the brush in a container of water when you have finished for the day - just shake off the water droplets and brush ready to use again.;)

Keep it safe, not much point in trying to save a few quid by diy'ing it, only to have to take time(money)off work after you fell off the steps;););)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Before fitting bath panel, fill in the void with rockwool insulation. Keeps water warmer longer.

So long as the paint isn't water soluble, i.e. it says use white spirit or proprietary brush cleaner (like Hammerite does) to clean the brush. Otherwise the water will just wash the paint out.

Clingflilm wrapped around the brush overnight will work for most types of paint.

On the same topic when using and emulsion roller, at the end of the day tightly wrap it in a supemarket bag, just the roller not the whole frame. Then do it again with another bag and tightly knot it around the wire arm/frame. It will still be fresh and usable days later with no loss of paint.

Don't bother with an expensive bath panel, make your own using marine ply, and paint with an oil-based paint. Much cheaper, looks better, and we put a little door in ours with a simple latch fitting, giving us valuable under-bath storage for all the cleaning and shampoo bottles bought in bulk during clearance sales.

The rockwool insulation is a great idea, we lined the back wall with heavy-duty foil but should we need to replace the bath (hope not!) would definitely fill the gap between tub and back wall with rockwool next time.

Freecycle! So many goodies are thrown away but nice people Freecycle ;) look them up on the net with a .org

It saves paying the local council to take away old furniture etc and is a valuable source for free stuff. The acctual aim is keep things out of landfill sites but people offer carpets, furniture, clothes, electrical equipment etc, etc & I love knowing that things I have no further use for are doing someone else a turn ;)
