£100 to fix power window?
Options
My passenger side EW stopped working. It goes down without problem, but when coming up, halfway up the line, the glass deviates from normal path and goes outside the window frame. With some tussle I've be able to push it back to the path and now it is in closed position. But I don't dare to bring it down as it won't go up again
Today spoke with a mechanic and he says he might charge upto £100 depending on what needs to be fixed.
I don't think the motor has died up, as it comes down and goes up halfway.
Somehow it is not following the window's plastic casing path after the half way up the mark.
Is this cost justifiable? I'll definitely enquire on other garages, but none is very near!
PS: the car is Hyundai Accent (2000 model)

Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Seems like the glass has slipped out of its channel. This means taking the door trim off and realligning the glass, which is normally held in by a couple of bolts at the bottom, the holes in the bracket are slotted so the glass can be lined up correctly. Car door panels can be quite tricky to remove but I would have thought a pro should be able to do the job in an hour, so £100 seems excessive. Obviously there is no way of knowing why the glass has moved until the door is stripped down, it may simply have stuck, with the recent good weather, this is possible as the rubber may have softened in the heat, then gone hard when it cooled, almost glueing the window shut, as the motor tried to free the glass it may have slipped out of the runner, then again rain could have found its way in and rusted the channel, unlikely as its plastic !! or the regulator may be bent, or any number of faults may be found. Maybe you should ask what problems would cost "up to £100" and what it is likely to be if straight forward.0
