Problem with Nationwide

Seems my account went overdrawn back in October last year.
Since then, I have received no communication from Nationwide informing me of that, and they have since applied three charges, totalling £55, again without notification.
The reason I have found this out now is that I had a call from an odd number on my phone and when I googled it, I saw it was used by them to chase delinquent/overdrawn accounts.
Anyway, what are the chances of me getting out of paying these fees?
I have contacte them in writing saying that I am happy to pay the £8 odds that I went overdrawn with, but not happy to pay the subsequent fees as this would have been sorted out immediately had they bothered to contact me at the time.
Anyone got any experience with this kind of situation?

Not very high as it's presumably not your main account.
You could raise a complaint regarding the alleged lack of notice, but I suspect they will respond saying exactly how they did provide notice and when.
It would be most unusual for any creditor to appoint a debt collection agency without first having asked for the money themselves.
Perhaps a quick phone call to Nationwide would be the best way forward to clarify the real facts of this issue.

Any charges would have been noted on your statements. They then give you about a month before taking the charge, so you have time to cover the fees. What did your statements say?
I would suggest looking into online banking, so you can keep a better eye on your balances to stop yourself getting into this area again. Also think about applying for a small buffer overdraft of say £50 to stop these nasty unauthorised charges.
If this is your first offense then give them a call and plead ignorance and hopefully they will get rid of the charges.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0
