    Where to start??!!

Like-minded folk who have answers and solutions for everything .... environmentally friendly and effective.

I've revolutionised our household and saved time and money with ...

Stardrops & Starclens, borax, bicarb, soapnuts, cleaning "recipes", food recipes (still learning how to use the slow cooker and food processor ;) ), microfibre cloths, white vinegar, cleaning ovens with soaking gunked racks and cookware in cheap washing powder. The Indexed Collection is my lifeline for information such as if I need to do something like stain removal etc before buying expensive "remedies".

I'd like to work on meal planning as I always did this once upon a time, but due to illness I have to decide on the day what I can manage, so am trying to adapt it to work in a slightly differently way --- but not very well yet :o . Since the price of bread is going up and up, I'm now thinking of getting a bread maker ..... even if I only end up making jam!! .

I never thought of getting a slow cooker before I discovered this site.
Also, I hadn't thought of meal planning.
I didn't realize that you could get an iron/kettle/toaster/hand blender for around a fiver if you shop around. I have discovered Asda smart price and Tesco value.
I saved a lot of money by taking onboard tips from the How to save gas and electricity thread.
I have slashed my phone bill by getting people who are on cheap call tariffs to call me straight back when I dial their numbers.
And I have discovered the joys of cooking from scratch - less salt, less fat, less additives and less cash!

Definitely meal planning and veggie recipes - at one point I was spending £400+/month for 2 (and still eating takeaways on top), now it's down to about £100 and I'm aiming within reason to get it lower. The Indexed Collection is excellent for whatever I'm researching.

And likeminded people saying No to the insanity of modern consumerism - it's inspirational!

This is a duh kind of a best advice but truly I tended not to look at prices before using this site. In a general kind of way I would glance along shelves, notice special offers etc but not in any consistent kind of way. And I'd just go to the handiest supermarket (sainsburys in my case) and sometimes for convenience would just pick up the fruit and veg at marks or whatever without ever once thinking what it was costing us. And I'd throw stuff in without ever looking at when we would eat it, creating a lot of waste. Sitting down and analysing what we eat and what the most cost effective way to buy it is has really helped me. Also trying to think about what's available before thinking about what I fancy :) And thinking about what needs used up as well.

I am pleased about the cleaning tips too. I don't know that they've saved me a lot of money yet but I do feel a lot better about using more environmentally friendly methods...
