Slightly off topic of chickpeas but that's a good tip Callie re soaking, cooking and freezing portions of soup/broth mix. The times I intend to soak some overnight and then forget!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Very occasionally they are 5 for £1, you need to keep an eye on prices and swoop.Asda are currently 3 for a poun but every so often they are 4 for a pound, I stock up then.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

You can soak them, then cook them and freeze in portions. I do this every so often if I'm feeling worthy - it works too with soup mix, kidney beans and wild rice (that I know of, I'd imagine that it'd work with most things like that).

Yotam Ottolenghi soaks chickpeas with bicarbonate of soda.
Only place near me that does dried is Sainsbury's and I hate theirs so I used to buy tinned KTC cheap from local ethnic shop. I use them to make houmous for OH and found cheapest organic are ASDA brand.
Some people freeze houmous but I'm not sure how as the olive oil would go white and solid..0 -
I have heard that soaking with a pinch of bicarbonate affects the nutritional value particularly b vitamins, occasionally adding it, it won't do any harm but if beans are a large part of your diet then it potentially could do. I'm personally very sensitive to the taste of bicarbonate so even a pinch I can taste it, I tried adding it once to some beans and it tasted so strong I had to bin them

Only offer on KTC chickpeas and tinned tomatoes that I could find in my local Morrisons last night was 3 cans for £1, but still a good buy on tinned chickpeas as far as I am concerned
