Housing Benefit Question

Hope somebody can help with this.
My mum is currently has been living with a friend for a few months now due to her previous tenancy ending. This was originally a short term arrangement whilst she looked for a new flat (she has not been paying rent). However, she has now been diagnosed with COPD and has is receiving IB.
My question is, if the friend she is lodging with starts asking for rent, can she claim housing benefit?

she should be able too, she needs sort out what her friend would ask in rent and then get a housing benefit form from the council.
If your mums friend is single and claims single person discount on council tax, she must be made aware of the implications of that.

also is your mum on the council list? having a condition like COPD can give extra points. also has she claimed DLA? She can recieve that AND IB and the DLA is not counted as income. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

She can apply for Housing Benefit, but her friend must give her a rent book showing the amount of rent payable.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Only if the rent is paid weekly.
Excluded occupiersYou pay the rent that you agreed with your landlord. If you don't pay your rent your landlord can evict you. If you pay rent weekly your landlord has to provide a rent book

I mean to claim HB they like to see a rent book, I know her friend does not HAVE to give her one unless she pays weekly, but HB always ask to see a rent book.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

If that actually occured though I would advise her that she shouldn't say that she's staying with a friend.
