2 week placement in the City-cheap sleeps?

Am asking on behalf of a friend who has a 2 week placement in the City over the summer and he wondered if I knew anywhere cheap to stay-preferably self catering facilities too.

i told him I could probably find some people who did!

Not self-catering, but there is a decent Youth Hostel opposite St Paul's, details here. You could try contacting City University, to see if they let rooms during the Summer. Or put an ad in Gumtree.

Barbican YMCA. Have stayed there quite a bit. It is catered though.
