car write off

Hi
Car was involved in an accident just a minor dent in a panel and after getting quotes and in discussion with the insurance assigned engineer. He advised that repair would be £2000 and value £2500 that he would be happy to write it off as a cat d. He asked if we wanted full payment minus excess or buy car back for another £600. As car is perfectly drjvable and roadworthy we agreed to buy the car back to sell on. Have just agreed a sale for £1400, but today just received insurance letter saying as agreed heres payment andg its been now registered cat c! Which will require VIC check.
If it was a cat c I wouldn't of taken it back. Can they change mind without asking what we want to do?

Its an older car, Many buyer wont care as long as its a clean reliable car. Get the VIC check done. Its only a check to make sure its the same car.
If you have proof they said D and not C then complain. But personally it wouldnt be worth the effort.
Explain to the buyer what happened and here it the VIC to show all is well. Give them your best price and when they try to know you down, Tell them you cannot go a penny lower as thats what you gave the insurance to keep the car thinking it was worth a lot more.
You sell the car for £££ over what really paid and make a bit of a profit.
Maybe enough to cover the insurance increases for the next 5 years.

Do I need to get it repaired at all for vic check?0

Usually yes.
Though from what you say repairs aren't necessary as the car is fully roadworthy.0 -
Just spoke to insurance and they say it is a Cat c by £50 and it won't require a VIC check as we are keeping it.
I have checked with VOSA and no VIC marker has been put on the car.0 -
Double check that because if it's registered as cat C on the insurers system I'd guess that will eventually make it's way through to DVLA/VOSA and then you won't be able to get a new logbook or tax disc until it goes through VIC0

It may come to light when the next owner gets the V5C. The DVLA may say they need a VIC before one is issued.
Repairs wont be needed as long as its still roadworthy your good to go. Although some insurers can be fussy and ask for a new MOT before they will continue cover.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
