It's confusing for pregnant women too, because all your milestones and appointments are in weeks, e.g. scans at 12 and 20 weeks, midwife appts every three weeks etc.So if you want to translate where you are in your pregnancy, you tend to divide your weeks by 4... but then trying to explain to people that you're in month 8 but still have 2 months to go is very confusing!Mortgage when started: £330,995

Isn't it traditional for the man to be pregnant in leap years?
Or am I confusing that with when Easter falls?0 -

Unless they've had a baby themselves, ppl don't understand "I'm 23 weeks".
They tend to say "err.. how many months is that"? (Or work it out themselves and say "oh, so almost 6 months?")Mortgage when started: £330,995

I didn't have any trouble with that.
I didn't use the word "month" until DD was 6 months old!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Funny I have JUST had this argument with my MIL. I told her I was 6 months (which is the date DH had said I could start baby shopping) and she said I couldn't possibly be because then the baby would arrive 4 weeks early.
REALLY confusing. We were reading the other day though that your third trimester doesn't start until you are 28 weeks. which confused me because I thought it would have started at 24. urgh.I don't often return to a thread I've posted on so.... if you want to ask me about anything I've written please pm me- I don't bite.0 -
Yeah it is well confusing isn't it!! When I say to people how many weeks I am they often say - 'I don't understand that, just tell me how many months you are!' Lol!
Because they date your pregnancy from your last period, technically (depending on your cycle) that means that they first two weeks you aren't actually pregnant at all, add that to the fact that, as others have said, most months are longer than 28 days and that's where you get the 40 weeks from. Although as pigpen said, you are considered full term by 37 weeks.
If someone asks me how many months I am I just take off 4 weeks from how many weeks I am and then divide that by 4 i.e. I am 23 weeks now, minus 4 = 19 divide that by 4 and that gives you almost 5 months. That seems to make sense to people seen as I am due at the beginning of July. Sheesh! Haha!0 -

I don't see how it's confusing at all.
As only one of the 12 months has 4 weeks (in 3 out of 4 years) you never divide by 4 to get the number of months.
Do as you'll do when baby arrives. My daughter was born on the 11th. So I count from the 11th.
If you are due on the 9th of Aug, you are 4 months pregnant today (5 months till 9th August).Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

I'm due on the 9th Aug and have been saying that I am 4 and a half months today, oops! I know it's wrong but I do use 4 weeks = one month. When I get to the 9th of July I'll just say I'm in the ninth month ... I like my way better, makes me further along
