JPM Natural Resources Fund - Why dropping like a stone?

I sold First State GS a couple of years ago to crystallise profits, not held it since but I think it is about time I got back info this years ISA.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

Overall it's been falling like a stone for the last 2 years.
The moral is dont always believe what you read (or Wealth 150 funds) and volatile funds can be a dog or a golden goose!!
Not necessarily a comment on this particular fund, but bad performance over two years doesn't necessarily mean that a fund is a dog.
If it's invested in a sector which has performed badly then you can hardly blame the fund.
Comparing with a fund which invests in a completely different sector hardly seems fair.0 -

I agree... maybe it didn't come across correctly. Both funds I quoted are in different sectors but both highly volatile and both were "tipped" by the financial "experts" at the time as potential high flyers. One soared and the other nose-dived but that is the risk associated with highly volatile sectors. It's also why they only represent a small proportion of my portfolio. If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.0 -
I've have been drip feeding into the JPM Natural Resources fund for a while now, I reduced my monthly payment about a year ago and due to the drop in value I am now considering increasing my monthly contribution into this fund. Before I do this I would be interested in hearing other people's views. Is this a good or bad idea?0

I bought some. That's all it takes.jabbahut40 wrote: »however noticed that over the last few months in particular it has dropped like a stone. Of the 8 funds in my S&S ISA this is the only one in the red, down 20%.
However, as an investor in his early 30's I am buoyed by my opinion that over the long term (10-20 years) this will be a good bet and right now I am buying more units per pound with my monthly purchase.
The last fund I ditched when it was performing badly in now +50%. If only I'd continued to buy more each month at the lower rate!!0
