My car's boot lock doesn't work!

And presumably INTO the lock itself where the key goes?
Keep jiggling the key around in it and try twisting a little - dont use too much force.
It is possible its not the right lock for the key - or possibly not the right bootlid - ie, somebody has had reason to replace the bootlid and got one a matching colour.
There would be a bit of stripping out of the lock to remove it from the bootlid but there should be a serial number on it which should relate to the key too, which you could check?
Yes I did spray plenty of WD40 into and around the lock both from inside and outside the car. There's only one number mentioned on the key (305). I can't find a number mentioned anywhere on/around the lock though.0 -
WD40 isn't great for car locks, or any kind of lock. While it will lubricate the excess water and fluid left over can freeze in cold weather and, in vey hot weather the main body of the spay will evaporate leaving behind a more sticky deposit which can jam the lock.tumblers. Short term it may help with your problem and shouldn't do too much harm but I wouldn't use it in a lock as a part of regular maintenance. They always say graphite powder is best.
It is certainly possible the lock was replaced at some point on the cheap and have a separate key.0
