Could you tell me if when you open a building society account, they credit score you to see if they will give you an account or can anyone have a building society account?

If you are talking about a current account, you will be credit scored like with a bank.

If it is a savings account, they will only perform a name search.

What if it's a basic (current) account without overdraft facility? However, even in this case a BS is no different from a bank.

My lovely neighbour and friend has been made bankrupt and just wants a very basic building society. No overdraft, just to be able to pay and withdraw? Would that be credit scored? Thankyou x

They definitely can't get a Barclays or coop account, hence the building society route? X

Can a post office account be used as a bank account?

Plenty of simple savings accounts you can choose from at many building societies
