.... do you think the police will give me 6 penalty points without a conviction if I ask them nicely enough?
A few weeks back I got caught by a static camera doing 35 in a 30. Hands up, fair cop. I was in a little bit of a rush at the time. I admitted the offence and was offered the option of the speed awareness course.
As I didn't fancy spending 4 hours and an extra £24 being patronised my first response was to accept the three SP30 points and the £60.00 fine.
My last 3 points for another SP30 were in 2000 and fell off my license 10 years ago, so I thought I'd better check what the 3 points would do to my premium.
The answer: Nothing.
However, points are easy to get so I was concerned what the extra cost would be if I racked up some more, so I added an extra 3 points & £60 to my quote search bringing my total points to 6.
The answer: Nothing.
I then thought, well, what if I was really naughty and had put my foot down, how much would they take me to the cleaners for if I racked up a 6 pointer and ended up with 9 points?
The answer: My three lowest lowest insurance quotes reduced by an average of 15% (over £45)!
So basically, has anyone ever got in trouble for "accidentally" declaring too many penalty points to their insurance company?

• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Interesting - so the insurance companies are factoring in the idea that with 9 points people will drive more carefully and have fewer claims.0

And people who have already had several accidents will drive more carefully in order to avoid having another? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

This is very interesting, and also somewhat annoying at the same time. As someone who has never been caught speeding, never had any points on my licence, and never been involved in a road traffic accident, I don't see why insurance companies should penalize me for being a good driver and reward others for bad driving.
But I guess if you told an insurance company you had points that you didn't have in an attempt to get a cheaper quote, this would count as fraud?0 -
If the OP has used his own details, he may get a call from his insurer asking for an increased premium, or cancelling his cover due to undisclosed convictions!
I hope he isn't with one of the firms who does this, or used dummy details at a similar address with a fictitious name.I am a mortgage broker.
