Buying a Dell Laptop

Hi folks
Well after reading these threads for a while I've decided to buy a Dell Laptop. But I'm not very 'techie-minded' and have a few very basic Q's before taking the plunge so would really appreciate any input / advice you can offer:
I only need it for emailing, web surfing, watching / downloading movies & music and word processing my budget is £450 -500 MAX
I would like to try Vista Home Basic as I would like to try it out (although I have no probs with XP) but want laptop to be fairly future proof
thinking of at least 80Gb hard drive
15" minimum screen
min 1Gb Ram
I know there's lots of discussion re' processors but am thinking of Core 2 Duo or AMD Turion (at a push to keep price down)
Is there anything else I should consider esp re' warranty requirements
Thanks in advance
NB: also how can I check that my existing printer and scanner will be compatible if I go for Vista?

You can get a Dell laptop for the type of work you use it for for less than your budget (at around £350). See here:

I would definitely also go for Vista as it is the future (near one) whether we like it or not. Just check on the websites of the manufacturers of your peripherals to see if they have drivers compatible with vista to know if they'll work.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
Buy a £350 Dell from Dell, listen to Albertross, buy one of the £352 laptops through Quidco and get £16 cashback. For your needs you'll need nothing more.0

Thanks guys, that's reassuring, I feel a bit more confident about buying now and will have a few pennies change too!
Aiadi: love your 'signature' very wise words indeed
