When broadband is down.

I have used broadband for several years now and would not wish to return to dial up connections.
However recent service outages with broadband have made me consider the possibility of reverting to dial up as a backup measure when these problems occur.
Are there any issues setting up a computer to accept both dial up and broadband (not at the same time of course!)
Any advice on who provides a reliable dial up package these days?

No issues at all. Your computer would need a dial-up modem. Some routers have a dial-up modem built in that you would need to set up.
Some broadband providers offer emergency dial-up as part of their broad band package. May be worth checking with your provider.
You would most likely want a PAYG dial up provider. Some of these providers require you to dial in every 3 months or they deactivate your account. I would choose a big well known stable provider like BT/yahoo etc0 -
Another possibility, especially if you are likely to want to use the connection in the daytime, when PAYG costs will be quite high, is to use; http://www.mipcards.com/

Hmmm.. I was on freeserve then wanadoo dialup then went broadband. The dialup setup has remained. Now that the ISP is Orange, I often suffer outages, so I just revert to the dialup program I still have. Amd yeah, it is quite expensive, so in those circumstances I only go online if I stritcly need to.
Worth perhaps asking Orange for a dialup disc.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Worth perhaps choosing a cheaper option.....
