New printer set up and not working

I purchased a printer from Very (and yes I have seen the other thread about their not-so-good CS) and have set it up.
Final stage was to plug it in and when I went to do so I found the plug is a 2-pin one!! Luckily we have an adaptor for OH's shaver so I used that. It turned on then went off again and won't restart
Thank you in advance for any help.

- Am I able to return the item for a refund or would I have to accept a replacement? I don't really want a printer with a 2-pin plug.
- What are my grounds for return?
- Do I need to buy another adaptor to make sure it is not that which is at fault (OH never liked a shaver so it has been resigned to a cupboard somewhere and I can't find it to check the adaptor is working)?
- The item is excluded from returns once it is installed so would this be an issue?
Thank you in advance for any help.

A shaver adapter is not going to power the printer, the 1 amp fuse in it is just going to blow, this is why it went off.
Contact Very and ask for a proper adapter, you should have got one with the printer.
Is the power cable fixed in or a kettle cable, you may just be able to use a different cable, they are pretty much all the same, if it's not fixed in.0 -
Oops I guess my attempt to fix the problem hasn't helped!
Yes it's a kettle cable.....and I have a kettle with the cable attached to the base so can't even use that.
It seems odd to get a 2-pin plug with the printer. If they refuse to send an appropriate plug is that grounds for return or am I being picky? I've got a printer I can't use and lots of work stacking up :-(0 -
You are entitled to reject the printer under the Sale of Goods Act, it's not fit for purpose. Very should then provide a full refund, including of postage and any returns costs.
It is also illegal for them to supply goods like this under the Plugs and Sockets Safety Regulations 1994.0 -
Careful that it isn't a 110v model. Plugging it into a 220v socket will have blown it."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I'll get onto Very and see how that fares (might be posting in the venting thread soon!)
Thanks for your help, great advice as always.
Is there really a Plugs and Sockets Act??
I would assume it's not a 110 volt as it was bought in the UK.0 -
The Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994Is there really a Plugs and Sockets Act??
or an easier to read version...

ha ha....guess the politicians do actually do some work!
Hopefully I won't have to quote that Act - I'm sure the CS rep will be as incredulous as I that it even exists lol.0
