After years of struggling, my IVA failing , months of questions, worries and general despair a cheque landed on my door step via CAB from the British Legion on Saturday for the bankruptcy fees.
Thank god I called as I read the info that came with the cheque and it said that it was a drop in service at the court but feeling the need to double check discovered that its an appointment basis and luckily managed to get one for tomorrow the day that i planned to go.
My paperwork has been completed since end of January I have resisited pouring over the forms as it is exactly the same as when I had it it checked by CAB on 24th January but will be digging them out and checking them at least twice tonight. My frock is ironed, guessing i am best going in something that I would nromally wear for my office job.
I have really got mixed feelings, still even after all these years I find myself thinking of "what ifs and if onlys". I am extremly embarrassed that I find myself in this position although I know it happens to the best of us and it wasnt through reckless spending, extravagant holidays or designer clothes. I am scared that I will get "found out" by my landlord and kicked out of my beautiful home and then will have a real battle finding somewhere else to rent. Lonely as I have not told anyone about my situation and not sure that I have any one that would fully understand I know my parents would be disgusted.
Then there is relief. I have been "lucky" to of missed the bailiffs twice. my phone rings between 20 - 30 times a day anytime from 0700 - 2130 7 days a week. so looking forward to answering my phone again the poor post man will probably have to go on to part time hours as i wont have as many reminders, threatening letters coming through the door!!
Looking forward. The one thing that is putting everything back into prospective is change. I am looking forward to managing all of my money. having a budget, being able to money to one side for car tax and repairs living a normal life rather than exsiting and scraping by robbing peter to pay paul.
So my checklist...
Enough petrol in car to get there and back!
frock ironed
paperwork in order
change for car park
magazine to read
I know cake is always recommended to enjoy once over, I have even decided to go to the cafe for my cake so i am not interupted by my phone ringing and having to break off to give my creditors the news of my bankruptcy - part of me is going to enjoy doing so.
So after this long winded post. I really hope some of you made it to the bottom so you can read my thanks and gratitude and i will see you at the other side!

Go for it girl I wish you all the luck in the world. Do not feel embarrassed, you have done nothing wrong. I did feel embarrassed and was feeling it if we lost this house yesterday but we did not.
You tried your best and that is all any of us can do.
Good Luck and enjoy the cake.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow, onwards and upwards! Definitely a good step into the future, a new future."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0

I went in sooooo nervous. The staff were really polite and helpful which put me at ease a little. When it was my turn I went into a room and there was just me and the Judge, he asked me two questions one to confirm my name and the other - "are you sure you want to do this". He signed the paper, smiled and wished me luck. I left feeling like I was walking on air and didn't stop smiling for a week. I never heard from creditors or their agents again from that day.
When I went to the official receivers office I was pretty scared as I had heard many stories. Nothing could be further from the truth. Again the staff were really helpful and the interview didn't last long.
I am now very credit worthy and for me it was the best decision I could have made.
Good luck.0 -

Hi I asked for a face to face appointment with the o.r and it lasted about 2 hrs ...complicated by properties. everyone I saw were kind and helpful that was 7 months ago and I am getting back to normal lol
you will be fine but don;t worry if the sense of relief doesn't happen straight away...mine is just happening.
chin up smile you'll be fine xx0 -
Good luck for tomorrow. It will be a fresh start for you and not having all the calls and post with those awful letters is hard to explain once they do stop. We all have our reasons for going BR and I know I tried for years on DMplan etc.
Best step I ever did going BR, yes mixed feelings but I got through it and eventually was AD Feb 2013. I feel so much better and stronger now. I did tell my family re BR and found them to very supportive, although I dreaded telling them.
Make sure you have a treat planned after tomorrow and dont beat yourself up about any of it. Onwards and upwards now.0 -
Good luck for tomorrow, although in all honesty you will not need it:):pB&SC No. 298

Good luck with the proceedings later. Just think of it as a new begining - it was for me. Once I did it I soon realised that I should have done it years earlier, things can only get better now.0
