Acenden/southern pacific mortgage ltd/matlock bank/london personal loans

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help please?
We are trying to claim back mis-sold PPI. A rep visited us and told us in no uncertain terms, we could not have the loan without PPI.
I originally contacted Acenden who took over The London Mortgage Company who we thought the loan was with, using Martin's template.

Their reply was that having reviewed their records, SPML did not have an interest in this loan prior to 2nd May 2006 and they believe the loan was advanced by LPL and organised by Matlock Bank.
As SPML had no interest in the loan prior to 2nd May 2006, they confirm SPML was not party to any discussion concerning the insurance policy at the point of sale.
They say they do not believe it appropriate for SPML to comment against which the complaint should be brought and must direct us to either Matlock Bank or the introducing company.
Issues relating to any refund should be addressed to the broker who arranged the policy.
This letter constitutes our final response.

I emailed Acenden back and asked them for the exact date the loan was taken out and who was the broker/insurer/underwriter.
To date I have not had a reply.

I have read on previous posts that Matlock do not exist at the last known adddress.

I am really stuck what to do next - can anyone help please?

The liability lies with the broker that sold it. Not the provider of the debt or the insurance company (unless they were tied to that insurer).

The MPPI provider will be able to tell you who it was.

Do note that most brokers only become regulated in January 2005. If the policy was sold prior to that date, there is the probability that the broker, once you find them, wont consider your complaint.

    Hi All......
Finally I have managed to track down my broker via Lightfoots Solicitors who advised the broker was Compass Finance. Lightfoots also sent me a copy of my agreement from London Personal Loans, which is very helpful.
Compass Finance have now gone out of business, so I have today contacted FSCS for an application form.
I will let you know the outcome............

p.s. the loan was taken out 01/02/2005

Good News ????? I have just had a letter yesterday out of the blue after chasing ppi claims from Southern Pacific London mortgage company etc it was from capital One credit cards they are advising me in the letter they bought some of London Personal Loans and that i was due PPI from them. I was asked to complete a form (nothing like the ones ive filled in previous (ive been chasing this claim since 2009 and Kept meeting dead ends)) I will keep you posted. Who knows this may be the breakthrough ive been waiting for. My Broker was Freedom Finance....Financial Ombudsman lost all my evidence so Deloitte wont deal with my case until i obtain the evidence again......im still trying.....! note to self Never send financial ombudsman orignals even by recorded delivery must of cost me grands !
  • Not too sure how to use this forum ! Im equally unsure about my potential PPI claim.
I know that in the past I was paying my bank an insurance against my becoming unemployed. Not sure for how long, but stopped when I realised I wouldnt qualify for any payout due to my being a supply teacher i.e. casual employment.
As daft as I am I cannot remember if it was Yorkshire Bank or Nat West ,having had accounts with both for a few years. Even more unfortunately I cant even remember if it was in the 1980's or 90's.
    Is it a hopeless case?!
