Disabled friendly (mobility) days out.

My talking therapist has suggested that now the weather is getting better I should try and get out at least twice a month on the weekends.
I've already decided I'm going to try and go fishing again (something I've not done for 4/5 years), but this time from my mobility scooter, taking a limited amount of gear (pole plus a few rigs, small tackle box, colapsable landing net, and bait box in a rucksack), rather than trying to get my large box, bags etc etc onto the bank.
I should be able to get the scooter onto the towpath and fish directly from the scooter.
But what about the other days?
I can obviously go to local parks on the scooter but that could get a bit boring after a while.
So I'm looking for mobility friendly days out, within a short (20/30 minutes Max) of Oldham/Rochdale/Saddleworth. (to make it a bit simpler 20-30 minutes of Jcn 21 of the M62)
Many Thanks.

What a fantastic idea! I used to go fishing a lot and then never had time to do so. Not sure I could manage single-handed but it's summat I'd love to try, used to love my fishing. Might have to order me some kit!0

Hi Dori!
I'm not too sure where you live but Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo in Mid Wales is a really great day out for disabled people. The paths around the zoo are all ramped and they give access to one carer for free with cheap tickets (around £5-6) for disabled visitors! Really great day out I really enjoy it myself. Lots of different animals and things to do, well worth a visit!
I'm a new user so can't post a link, but if you google folly farm you should find it
Hope this helps or gives you some inspiration!

there is a disabled fishing club called 'the lame ducks'. I know there is one now in Scotland too. I don't know what is close to yourself but i'm sure if you contact them they would have advise about aids and good places to go to.

around where I live some countryside parks hire out scooters from the ranger service- they also act as emergency back up should the scooter pack up and give info on which trails are accessible.
you could look at the disabled ramblers clubs to see if they have info.

I have never fished, but this sounds a great idea. Having thought about it, fishing could be something I could have a go at. Does anyone know of this type of club in the West Midlands area?
Thanks in advance.0 -
I have a friend who's not working atm, who went fishing the other day. Never having seen the attraction myself, I shall just share with you his comment that on a lovely sunny day it wouldn't have mattered that they didn't catch anything, but to go out in shorts and without a hat and gloves on a not so warm day made it not so rewarding!
So, take your woolly hat and gloves, whatever the weather forecast says.
As for the general enquiry, I'd look at the local tourism site for your area, then see what you fancy, THEN go to each venue's websites / phone them up and ask about their scooter friendliness.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
