Buildings and contents quotes

I've got a really competitive quote for buildings and contents. It lasts for 30 days though and we are not likely to exchange in that time. What can I do to take up this policy. Is it possible to apply for it and leave the start date open and get it started as soon as we exchange, or will I just have to go back for another quote when we know we're exchanging and hope it's still as good?
