Hi I wonder if anyone can help, I recieved an email a while back regarding free speed doubling in my area, I was told my connection would go from 60mb to 100mb and was told to check a page regarding when the work would be complete. all work is now complete but the speed has never been doubled I average at 40mb never hit 60mb so i was hoping if i got upgraded to 100 I may get 60. but everytime I call virgin they say, the only way I will get 100 is by upgrading my package, at a considerable rate, I also have mates rates is this what is stopping me being entitled to the free upgrade, and also why did the send an email saying I was entitled to this if im not. the support team do not seem to be very helpfull or are able to explain anything apart from a price rise.
Sorry if I have posted this to the wrong place
thank you in advance

I was upgraded recently although I am on a much lower speed than you.
I do remember reading though that people would not be 'doubled' to the maximum 120Mb package and that the maximum for free upgrade would be to 100Mb. I wonder if this has changed.
One question, do you have a 'superhub' as I think that is a requirement for faster speeds.
If not then I am sure thats your problem - they will send you one for free.
I had one sent to me but its a tiny bit of a pain as it needs to be signed for so they tried three times before I was in.
Let us know if you have a superhub.0 -
PS - although this is a great forum, you might want to look at
http://community.virginmedia.com/ and take a quick look at some of the other questions and answers - I would be surprised if your question hasn't already been adressed over there.
I had all my Vm speed doubling questions answered on there and also fixed some of the initial config problems I had.0 -
yes I do have a super hub I upgraded from 30 meg to 60 meg and I had to have a super hub as my older modem would not support this speed, although it seems my super hub does not support this speed either as I have never recieved 60mb, I have also posted on the the virgin forum page and it seems a lot of people have never recieved upgrade, although some have. it seems you are throttled between the hours of 4pm and 10pm irrelavant of usage. some people say its not worth paying for an upgrade, I wouldn't mind though if it was free :rotfl:0

60Mbps is an already doubled package (ie doubled 30) so there will be no free doubling.
VM currently sell 3 packages - 30 60 and 100. Those are the doubled speeds so areas lagging behind in the doubling may have customers on 2, 10, 20, 30, 50 and 100.
Anything that started out below 20 will be doubled free to 30, bought as 20 or 30 will be doubled to 60, bought as 50 doubled to 100, bought as 100 price reduced to what was charged for 50. Later this year they have promised that 100 will be boosted to 120.
What confuses people is that they may buy 30, 60, or 100 in areas that have not been doubled because VM are selling doubled packages to new customers while existing customers who aren't sazzy enough to call in and complain pay the same money for the old speeds.
To get 30 and over you need a Superhub which should come free so long as you ask.0 -
I was not aware that I had doubled as I recieved an email about 3 to 4 monts after being on th 60mb package, the email stated that they were doubling the speeds in my area that my package would go from 60 to 100 and gave me a link to a page that required me to put in my postcode, the area was not ready at the time, they said in response to my email as soon as the area is ready your speed will be 100 mb , this is what I found confusing .... Thanks for your help you were more informative than virgin help line.0

Are you sure that you are on 60? It is 50 that is being doubled to 100 and I'd have thought that they'd get personalised emails correct. My VM will tell you what package you pay for and the modem/router operational config will show what you are actually connected at.
I have 60Mbps in a non-doubled area (I called retentions) and mine says...
Primary Downstream Service Flow
SFID 22908
Max Traffic Rate 66000000 bps
Max Traffic Burst 10000 bytes
Min Traffic Rate 0 bps
Primary Upstream Service Flow
SFID 22907
Max Traffic Rate 3072000 bps
Max Traffic Burst 8160 bytes
Min Traffic Rate 0 bps
Max Concatenated Burst 8160 bps
Scheduling Type BestEffort0 -

Yes up to 60mbps averaging 20mbps between 4pm and 10pm 40mbps thereafter irrelevant of how much I download, I cant access my virgin media at the moment but I believe it's the xl package.
They said the email was a mistake, and yes I already have been doubled. my computer has been off all day its now 9.40pm and I am averaging 25mbps, I know this will change about 10pm or later it will jump up to about 40mbps as I have checked this on numerous speed tests0 -
Mine's been doubled from 30 to 60, although I had to ring as the upgrade hadn't been applied.
It does only say "up to" so while you may be on the 60mb service, 40mb might be all you can get. In some areas VM suffers badly from over utilisation (too many people on the system) and speeds can vary. I think there's a major thread from subscribers in Wigan on the VM forums - they are really suffering poor speeds.0
