Nationwide do it again

So I opened a new account with Nationwide, a Regular Saver.
Guess what?
Card and Pin sent on the same day... again... and the card doesn't need activating.
Fed up with this, logged feedback with them, already seen someone else on here fall victim to mail fraud due to Nationwide sending out cards that don't require activation on the same day as their corresponding PIN; in the other person's case Nationwide don't believe them as their PIN was used to spend on the card...
If anyone else notices the same I urge you to log it as feedback with Nationwide; they need to take note I feel!

Clearly they feel that the fraud risk is so small and the gains to customer service so much better.
Given one fraud reported here. Against how many cards/pins a day get sent out...
I far prefer to be able to use a card straight away. NOT have to call to activate it.
As to the fraud case. In non reciept cases. Its often someone known to the card holder who has taken and used card.
All you have to do is report to police and let them take it forward.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
I suppose, I mean I've never fallen victim to this type of fraud, but certainly could have.
I've lived in some unsavoury places in the past with a communal letterbox and hallway, and at that time I didn't know the other residents and wouldn't put it past them... Mail did go missing there but I never noticed cards go missing thankfully.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Hmm, my Select CC arrived Pre activated, a selling point seemed to be that while I wait for the pin, I can use it online (to which I thought, great, because my car insurance was due for renewal
) but I can see how there's a potential issue there.
The pin didn't turn up for a few days though.0 -
My last Nationwide card was a lovely right-angle, I'm assuming done by the postie.0

How do you know they were sent on the same day?
They may have arrived on the same day, but that doesn't mean they were sent the same day...Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
When they send you another card and know you use online banking, why don't they send you the card via the postal system and then send the PIN via a secure message?
Also, one thing I liked about Tesco was that once you received the card, you clicked a box inside online banking to activate it, and I do remember another card issuer (forget who it is now) who didn't even send out the PIN until you told them you had received the card.0 -
Is there such a beast as a secure message from the Banking Industry?
Yes, its at the top of the page after you login. Considering Nationwide post you your PIN number, I'm sure they can send you a secure online message (as they call it) instead. Of course, if your not registered for Nationwide's online banking, then they'll have no choice. Heck they could even make it an option on the application form "How would you like your PIN number delivered to you? [Post] [Secure Message]".0 -

You can use any card as soon as it arrives whether or not it requires activation, whether or not you have the PIN!
One phone call to the bank to activate, and you can get straight on t'internet to buy your insurance...
I like the idea of having to request your PIN manually after the card arrives.
MBNA show you your PIN online.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Ha, good point, my brain must've been asleep!
Manually requesting the PIN is a good idea providing you can get it instantly online...
Capital One also have offered this for a while now, and I got an email from Barclaycard saying they were offering it - I've just clicked on PIN services in my BC though and it doesn't currently work, but I assume it will eventually!0
