It could be you just don't have enough info on your file as you haven't been borrowing.
Join the electoral role, that helps.0 -
Give it 3-6 months and as long as your current account is managed well a pre-approval will pop up.
Santander are a cautious lender. if you have little in the way of credit history you are seen as a risk, 20k in the account or not.
It may be worth throwing an appeal through though.0 -
Sorry to drag up an old thread, but a little update.
Turns out i was probably (*) refused a santander credit card because of a black mark on my experian credit file that was placed by barclay card.
The information was completely incorrect , my barclay card account was settled and closed ten + years ago. I queried it and it has now been removed from my files. All this throws up another dilemma , do i get hold of barclay card and request that they tell santander that it was "our fault " , get hold of experian and ask them to remove the credit check mark left by santander and request that they get in touch with santander to have my refusal of credit removed from their internal computor system. As all the information was based on a non truth.
(*) I say probably because santander will not discuss the issue with me , but everybody who has looked seems to agree that the refusal was based on the barclay card mark.0 -
You've the black mark removed from your credit report because it was incorrect. I don't believe they are obliged to remove the credit search from Santander because this information is correct - a credit check did take place.0

Although i agree with what your saying , it resulted in a refusal of credit based on incorrect information. Which seems unfair to me.0

It may seem unfair, but it was based on information at the time. It has been rectified, so now move on.

Agreed - and one credit search won't affect your credit report negatively. Multiple searches in a short period of time will - as it hints at desperation for credit.0

Have you tried applying again?
Did you lodge an appeal with supporting information re file clearance?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Having read all above, and is correct, you could write to BC with a complaint asking for a small compensation.0
