Outlook 2007 ...So Slow!

I have been running Outlook 2007 for a few months now and find that when it is receiving email messages the whole PC slows down and messages take an age to download. Probably takes about 1 minute for each email and if you have been away and have 50-60 this can take an hour!!

Its driving me up the wall any ideas?

Running:-

XP Pro
1024mb RAM
3.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4

What AV are you running? Any AV will slow down receipt of emails as they are scanned for viruses on arrival. Also, any filters to move certain messages to specific folders will slow things down, as will the junk mail filters.

Outlook is pretty resource hungry on its own, anyway.

I assume you're on broadband?

Running AVG currently and I do have quite a few filters running, yes to BB.

Outlook 2003 was never this slow.

One of the twit podcasts, Windows Weekly with Paul Thurrott I think, mentioned they'd downloaded an ms update to outlook '07 that had sped it up dramitcally. Have you got all the latest updates?
