Well thats not strictly true my wife and I can get cover of sorts for both at a very high price. The problem with contents insurance is that I nam a discharged bankrupt (2 years) and my wife has just become bankrupt in the last month, all caused by ill health and my residual debt ie motgage shortfall after our house was repossesed and sold cheaply being passed onto her as it was a joint mortgage. This seems to mean that insurance companies want approx £126 per month to cover my contents for the minimum of £50,00 which is ridiculous, also since my wife is disabled and I have health issues I cant seem to get cheap travel insurance below £399 each for one weeks european travel.
My question is since existing conditions are so expensive to cover can I just insure for any accident abroad which is not linked to a pre existing condition such as a broken bone etc and repatriation should something go badly wrong or must I cover all or more realistically chance having no cover at all? Also what use is the european medical card if I must have insurance?I cant afford expensive insurance and we are due to go to spain for a week in September so what can I do?.
My travel firm offer their own insurance for £26 each but if I declare pre existing this will become too expensive but they want proof we are insured. Last year we went to Lanzarote and I took a chance and bought basic cover on the net for £8 each so what should I do?
Any help gratefully accepted

You can take a chance and buy travel insurance and not disclose your conditions - you would then have a policy to show your travel firm.
(Though realise it may be worthless in the event of a claim)
A local broker (not swinton) may be able to find a cheaper deal for your bankruptcy problems.0 -
If you book independently you won't need insurance but have you thought this through, imagine one of your pre-existing conditions leds to you being hospitalized and you need to be flown back home. That is a huge bill you can't afford without insurance.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

And unfair on your relatives if they have to bail you out because you have no insurance to cover you abroad/repatriate your remains/special medevac flight etc0 -
put quite simply though the insurance will cost almost the same as the holiday and we just haven't got that sort of money, youre right in what you say but its not the answer for us, I still dont understand why we have to have the european medical card if its worthless???? There has to be a firm that can help people with existing conditions as ive tried all the mainstream ones?0

The european medical card isn't a replacement for insurance - eg. you cannot be repatriated (dead or alive), nor can you have someone flown out to care for you on it etc.0

Your European card entitles you to the same emergency care as a national of the EU country you are in. That's ALLThis is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Just a thought, but how about holidaying in the UK?0

So... don't go - holiday in the UK instead... simples.:hello:0 -
Your credit history means contents insurers only want to touch you with a ten foot bargepole and the pre existing conditions mean travel insurers only want to touch you with the same bargepole. You can't help falling ill but if you want proper insurance you are going to have to pay through the nose for it. Life is harsh

As regards to your contents insurance, your bankruptcy having been discharged 2 years ago should not prevent many mainstream insurers quoting. However as your wife is still on the bankruptcy list you this will prevent many insurers from quoting. Some may consider but would require full payment up front so you could not do a monthly DD.
There are specialists who deal with "non-standard" circumstances. Have you tried
