Threatened by AI Claims Solutions
A couple of years ago my car was hit by a drunken driver while it was parked outside my home.
His insurance paid for the repair and a courtesy car and all was well.
Now I'm being harassed by AI Claims Solutions for a copy of the police report. I asked at the local police station for the report but it was not kept there but at the police HQ, I obtained all the information for AI to get the report but the Cheshire constabulary refuse to give it to them, only to me.
I was asked to travel to the HQ but as it meant a journey out of town unpaid I told AI they would have to pay me for the trip, their reply was if I didn't get the information for them they would revert the full insurance cost to me!!
As I had already sent all the information to my then insurers i think this is a bit of a cheek, surely this is a dispute between AI and the other insurance company.
Can anyone advise on the legal position please or are AI just trying to frighten me?
I'll be 75 next month so try not to be too technical in your replies please!
Kind regards,
SP
PS I am a newbie

I'm not clear - were AI Claims Solutions your insurance company at the time of the accident?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

It sounds like you used A1 CS as a claims handler, and they still haven't been fully reimbursed.
If so, you will have agreed to assist them to get reimbursed off the third party, and this will include your assistance in obtaining the police report. You breaking that agreement probably does allow them to train their sights on you to recompense them.
Tell them you cannot afford to make the journey and ask them to reconsider not paying your travel expenses - though getting the report will probably far less hassle than refusing to do so!0

Can't the Cheshire Constabulary post the report to you?0

The police should just post it - i got mine in the post as did a friend who had a prang a few months back. Both from the Met Police.0

Tell AI claims solutions to pay the police the bloody fee for the report. This is all they are trying to dodge paying.
I cannot see a situation when AI are not going to be able to recover the costs of the police report from the insurers of the other party when they get reimbursed.
AI Claims Solutions tend to deal with non-fault claims when they are referred a customer by an insurer. So I would suspect you phoned your insurers to report the incident, they passed you onto AI to provide repairs & hire car, the costs of this is then pursued against the insurer of the drunk driver.
I assume you didn't have to pay your policy excess?
There is presumably some sort of dispute being raised by the insurer of the third party which means AI need the police report to establish some facts, such as identifying the driver etc etc.
Under the terms of the credit hire agreement you probably signed with them, there will be a requirement for you to co-operate with them in the pursuit of the costs of the claim against the negligent party, which will be what they are threatening you with.0
