Ok looong story.
My husband gets the child benefit in the family and I claim carers allowance. I recently had a fall (I have fibromyalgia) and have been told by the GP that I am in no physical state to be carer for my epileptic daughter (although she only needs watching, literally).
My husband is quitting work to look after her, me and the rest of the kids.
Now the fun part.
We have to get carers swapped from me to him so he can claim Income Support. Then we have to get the child benefit swapped from him to me. We then have the housing benefit and council tax forms to do and tax credits to ring. BUT if at my next review for DLA I get care middle rate, we have to swap the carers for daughter back to me and then he would claim carers for me...with me so far?
All this with the blessing of the DWP who really make things simple...NOT.
So the 19th of May is going to be fun...thank goodness we can now apply for IS and Carers online, I think I would go insane otherwise.
Darn it would be easier if carers could get working tax credits instead of Income Support, after all, caring is a 24/7 job, which if we employed an agency carer would cost the taxpayer about £12 an hour. (hubby used to do that for a living a few years back, the agency got £12 hubby got £5.50)
Isn't life grand?

Hello Hapless, I'm pleased to meet another Fibromite on MSE. I didnt understand your complex money situation (fibro fog!!) but I do understand about your problems with the DWP and DLA etc, I think their idea is to make life so complicated and stressful we will give up applying for benefits and just starve/be homeless etc, if I could work I certainly would after all the stress and hassle they have/are putting me through! Im currently going through a DLA appeal, they turned me down flat for anything. Good luck with your benefits, dont let the b*gg*** get you down!!:j :j0
