Failure to relicense vehicle

Hi, first post..

I've just received a letter from Area enforcement centre (DVLA) saying my car has no road tax and I've been fined £80 or £40 if i pay now..

I sold the car in January 2012 with 6 days road tax left... i posted all the legal documents to the DVLA

I tried phoning but you can only phone them to pay the fine.

Any help would be great

I'm in the same boat, I sold my van last march and sent the v5 to them but they have been pestering me since last October with threats to fine me fo not notifying them of the sale and for not taxing it. Writing back to them gets you nowhere so I'm awaiting my day in court if they want to take me there.

They wont, they operate like a fake parking ticket firm, all mouth and no trousers, they did summons a couple of people but waited to see if they turned up then threw the cases in.
Until they do, it just remains an invoice.

They have taken people to court though. Not sure how many they lose, But a couple of hours on here to get the right info and actually turning up to the court means they will probably lose.

If you dont turn up they win. Probably the only time they do win.


SNes73, Did you send the V5C off to them? Did you get a letter back saying they have received it?

Thats all the proof you need. Dont even need to spend an hour looking on the net if you have that.
