Engagement Ring Repair

Hi All

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but looking for advice. My wifes engagement ring was put in for repair just before 14th Feb as it is 15years old and my local jeweller informed me its claw was worn and the seatings for the other diamonds was worn. It would cost £170 to repair. Job done and pickup about 20th Feb. All seemed ok until about an hour ago when my wife called saying a diamond was missing and she cannot find it. Would this be down to the jeweller and where would I stand if we cannot find the diamond? Any help would be great.
Thanks

  • I know guarantee periods can vary from jeweller to jeweller but the average seems to be around 6 months for a repair. Providing that the diamond was lost from part of the ring that was repaired I would have thought that the jeweller would be liable for replacing the stone and making good.
Your first port of call would be to take the ring back in to the jeweller however and see what they say.

I would suggest that the claws holding the lost diamond weren't tightened sufficiently. Take a look at the setting - are all the claws OK? Is there a broken claw?
As long as the jeweller is reputable, they will probably reset a stone for you. however you will need to be aware that any replacement stone may look different from the others that remain. When multi-stone rings are made, the diamonds are chosen as matching sets. It can be difficult to match a new stone to an existing set.
