And the DWP process 60 million phonecalls a year

The fact that you can have a promised call back by 16:30 (and actually as it happened within 30 minutes) is bloody brilliant!

To be fair, RandD please re read your first post, if you are the partner on the claim then why is the emphasis on what you have done? It should be your partner, if you have children you will be a couple claim.
Couple claim, dependent children, one person signs and is responsible for looking for work
joint claim, no dependent children and both parties sign and both parties responsible for looking for work.

Mistakes do happen, it a system that pays you not a person. They have explained what happened.

At risk of getting my head bitten off, you may be eligible for NEA to set up your business. JCP do want to help so if you are so set up on self employment go get the help, get the business going and then you will no longer need the JSA payments.

And in future, if you phone up a day before your payment, you can ask for a callback to confirm it will be in your account for pay day before it becomes "no money on payday"
  • I looked on the DWP's website & could not find anything out about clerical JSA, I googled it & arrived at this post on this forum - so registered here. I was told about it by someone on a benefits advice helpline. As I understand things it is something to which I'm entitled. I need to sign on but I am not available for work because I have a doctor's certificate which lasts me up until the end of March; I'm in the process of appealing against the decision to stop my ESA, the tribunal have took the DWP's side & so now I'm going to the upper tribunal, whilst my appeal was with the lower tribunal I was entitled to ESA at a reduced rate, but as I understand things now I am not entitled to that now that I've finished with the lower tribunal.

I have posted this both in reply/answer to the OP but also to seek any more advice/information which may be relevant to me.

Claims are generally only processed clerically because a fault of some kind with the computer system prevents them from being processed on the system. DWP staff certainly don't want the added hassle of processing claims manually because it can be extremely time consuming.
Moving to Universal Credits won't change that because it is still run on a computer system, and computer systems can go wrong.
If you know the claim is being clerically processed just check your bank account on the morning of the day payment should be received and call the benefit office if it's not there. Payment can then be made the same day.
There is no conspiracy by staff, or the DWP in general, to prevent customers getting their money on time. Calls from irate customers are not on the top of anyone's list of things they must have in the day.

The OP I would like to think is now busy running their own business as the thread is nearly 2 years old....

I am confused though what you mean ....your entitled to a clarical JSA Claim... claims only go clerical when they go manuel due to mainly computer system errors.

Start a new thread to get a better response as hijacking others only confuses x
  • I wasn't hijacking the thread - as I said I googled the subject & this thread was the most appropriate result. My ESA is about to be stopped because I have been refused a 'set aside' by the tribunal, I need to go to the upper tribunal, obviously I need money to live on whilst that's going on so I must sign on, however I am not available for work as I have a doctor's medical certificate saying I'm unfit for work which lasts till the end of March. I was informed that so-called clerical JSA was the answer. I am in the most terrible state at the moment, worried sick & stressed out.

spaniel-lover. When you have an appeal running on ESA and have to claim JSA in the mean-time, the ESA claim is taken off the computer system and maintained clerically. This is simply because both JSA and ESA run on the same system and it can't accept 2 claim from the same person at the same time.
Whether the claim is maintained clerically or on the computer system makes no difference to any entitlement to benefit. There won't be any reference to clerical claims on the websites because it is an entirely 'internal' process to the DWP.
