Has he tried the compare sites?
Try Saga or the AA.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
hi will try
please can you advise what things he should look for to be included in the price with having to take out separate policy and he will wish to pay monthly as he pensioner0 -
Try the over 50s companies - Saga, RIAS, Castle, Insure4Retirement. I'm not sure if all of these would be on the comparison sites but you should still have a look at comparison sites anyway. Make sure you choose an affordable excess.
You will definitely need to know the approx age of the building as this would affect the premium - usually the older, the more expensive.
A 5 bedroom property will usually be more expensive to insure and you will need to make sure you have adequate sums insured. Many companies offer a blanket cover £500k - £1m for buildings. With contents, most companies offer £50k as standard, some give £75k or more. It's up to you how much you think is required but there are some tools that can help eg

As regards to the home emergency cover - some policies will include a limited amount as standard (maybe MoreThan?) but bear in mind if you use this and it is included in B&C cover if may have an excess and goes down as a claim against the B&C policy.
Most home insurers will offer a separate home emergency policy that can be used with no excess fee and will not affect no claims discount if used. You usually have to pay a bit extra for this - possibly £50 to £80. However insurers sometimes have promotions offering free or reduced price cover.
The cover on this type of policy will vary. Check the types of incident that can be claimed for, the amount you can claim for, if it covers complete or partial breakdown, any excess or call out fees.
One final thing - if you are getting a quote over the phone ALWAYS ask if they can give any more discount especially if you are taking the home emergency cover - the insurer usually gets a lot of commission on these policies so may be able to reduce the premium for you. They may say no but there's no harm asking!
You'll definitely have to do a bit of shopping around but it's a good thing you are doing.0
