What to get as a wedding/family keepsake?

I have just sold my wedding dress as we desperately needed some money to pay for some repairs on my car. Fortunately in the meantime we found a garage that managed to repair the car for significantly less than we had been quoted so I do not need the money for that anymore. We do have lots of other bills to pay though so it will be good to try to chip away at that a little but I feel a bit sad about having sold my wedding dress with the sentimental attachment (as we are still happily married 8 years on with 2 children) so I thought it would be nice to use some of the money to buy some kind of keepsake that will remind me of the wedding/our marriage. I am getting £280 for the dress so I was thinking I would feel comfortable using around £100 ish of it for something that means something to us. I had thought of replacing my engagement ring as I can't wear it as I am allergic to the metal but it seems the cheapest ring that won't irritate my skin will cost £1400 so that is out. Then I had a thought about this silver fingerprint stuff I keep seeing so I thought 'why don't I get a keyring with our 4 fingerprints on and that will be a memory of our marriage and the 2 lovely people that came from it' until I checked the websites for prices and found that it would cost around £150 and I will never ever, even if I win the lottery, pay £150 for a keyring!! So does anyone have any other ideas?

    Oh hunny

I've been married 23 yrs this year and the only time I think of my dress is when I look at the one wedding photo we have on display.

As for a keepsake I've got my ring and my OH .....what more could I want?

I'd put the whole lot to the debt - but that's just me

Um. You've got a marriage certificate, two kids, happy memories and photos. Do you really need anything else?
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

I would add that my sister has been married nearly 20 years and my mum still moans about our dresses both cluttering up her house, so as you can guess neither of us has any sentimental attachment our dresses!

I, too, would put the money towards the debts now.

If you do want a keepsake, think about it and save towards it after the other debts are paid.

I paid about £66 for a leather bound photo book of our wedding photos (I waited for a PhotoBox sale it had 33% off).

It will last much better than printed photos & looks amazing.

Or could you get your engagement ring coated in something you aren't allergic to?

If you have a gas hob you can make the fingerprint jewellery stuff yourself. It doesn't need any special equipment. My mum made me a pendant with my DD's fingerprint in it for xmas. It's quite fiddly, but would cost a lot less than £150.

Just have a look on youtube for "silver clay".

I have dreadful metal allergies but this stuff ends up 99.9% pure silver, so I can wear it all the time. :)

the dress is gone - anything you buy now is from now! use the money to either pay off debt or treat the whole family!
keepsakes cannot be bought in retrospect - live in the here and now!
