PCP - Volkswagen Service Package or not?

Hi,
I've finally decided to opt out of my company car scheme and am going for a PCP deal. I've found my car and have put my deposit down...
Not collecting till next week, so I've got time to decide on whether I want the all inclusive Service, Maintenance & Tyres deal and could do with advice.
The car was registered Nov 11 and has 21k on the clock. They're offering all servicing, maintenance (inc MOT, pads, discs, cambelt etc) and all tyres for £105/month. So about £1,260 per annum. I've done some maths based on tyres, services, brakes, cambelt and reckon that going for the maintenance is probably a 'safe bet' as it looks a good price.
Any ideas/suggestions?
FWIW, I do circa 22k pa about 75% of that is motorway driving.

£1,300 a year to service a nearly new car, what is it, a Phaeton?
That sounds very expensive.0 -
Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI Sport BlueMotion
Registered Nov 2011
21,100 on the clock.
I've got a 3 year PCP for 66,000 miles (22k pa), over the course of that 3 years I've budgeted the following:
- 2 sets of tyres @ £500 each : Total £1k
- 3 Services (every 20k miles, so 40k, 60k, 80k) @ £350/time : Total £1,050
- 1 Gearbox & Oil Filter Change : £185
- 1 Cambelt Change : £500
- 2 sets of Front Pads & Discs @ £225 each : Total £450
- 2 sets of Rear Pads & Discs @ £225 each : Total £450
Total £3,635 which assumes I don't need to do anything else. That said, I'm clueless when it comes to mechanics and they're pricing estimates that have been bumped up to allow for inflation.
You could tell me I'm a million miles off...
Any advice massively appreciated.0 -
Its expensive, I do a similar mileage, and on a nearly new car the costs should be less than £1200 pa. Most problems will occur during your first year of ownership so I would do with out. Just bank the money you would have saved per month for future sservice events. I've run 3 different cars on PCP's for the last 7 years, so the PCP side suits me.0

I can't comment on my own car, as it's not standard, but wife has run a C-Max from 7,000 miles and has just hit 60,000 miles. Brakes have yet to be changed, cambelt interval is 100,000 miles or 10 years so not an issue, other than that it's cost £160 per year to get serviced and MOT'd at an inde. There's been a couple of niggles that have cost a total of £200. So over 3 years it's cost us £35pcm to run it, excluding tax and insurance.
If you're doing motorway miles are you really going to go through 2 sets of pads and discs?0 -
Contract service pacakages don't always work out as the breakdown of potential costs is supposed to show.
Those 3 services @ £350 a shot?, they all major services including full dismantling?, none of them inspection service timed at 45 miniutes for basically an oil change @ £170 all in?...oh no gearbox oil change an extra job.
That desperately needed full set of brake pads and discs that you would normally be billed for suddenly arn't quite so worn after all when there will be no invoice issued.
This type of thing has come up on several make specific forums, not VW as it happens.
You're buying into a service insurance policy, designed to make them money by paying out the minimum, fair wear and tear will also apply if they think you've been wearing things out too quickly, replacement tyres OE quality guaranteed?
Thanks very much for showing how much VW charge for servicing costs to a run of the mill car, haven't owned a VW since the late 80's (unimpressed then) i've never used a VW main dealer at all and seeing those prices i never will be, kerching.
I'd be using a good make specific indy for my services using genuine parts, might be prudent to ask one for servicing costs to compare.0 -
Gilbert - Just to be fair, those are not VW costs... Those were very much my estimations based on previous cars I've had and estimations based on internet research.
However, based on what is read here and another forum I've asked the question on, I think I'll skip it, bank the £100 each month into a savings account, pay for service out of it and all being well, I could be left with a nice lump sum at the end of my 3 year PCP.0
