While on holiday in Portugal my wife had an accident and was carted off to a private clinic for an x-ray.
Total cost €448. Hopefully to be repaid by insurance.
On being presented with the credit card machine I took out my emergency (while I am abroad) Capital One credit card and used that instead of my Nationwide credit card.
I have just checked my statement online and the €448 was converted to £386.67 and also a 2.5% charge of £10.63 was added for using my card abroad making a total of £397.30.
What would Nationwide have charged?
Will the insurance pay £397.30 or £386.67 or their own equivalent of €448?
I still have another claim to make but that is in £s and probably will come out of the excess.
Also how do I get a euro symbol on here?
There is one on my keyboard on the 4 key.
Windows 8.

I would take it they would need proof of the payment. As such send then a copy of your CC statement and you should be refunded, the amount you got charged.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

I have a receipt not just a credit card statement taken from my online account.
I have receipts for everything all scanned into my computer.Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -
2.5% and the rate would be very close to http://www.visaeurope.com/en/cardholders/exchange_rates.aspx
I guess they will pay per the hospital bill and use the visa (or interbank) rate on the day of transaction.

i thought nationwide had commission-free purchases abroad?0 -

What 'purchases' if it was an ATM withdrawal?
2.5% is cash advance fee.
Currency exchange loading is 0% for Select.0 -

From the OPOn being presented with the credit card machine...
Also there is no mention of Select card, but I guess it is possibly the older CC that doesn't charge anything for European usage.0 -
My apologies. It was my misunderstanding.0
