If you're pee'd off, you only have yourself to blame. You should have taken the offer up of £150 as this is going to cost you far more now in increased premiums for the next 5 years.

Silly really for the sake of £50.

just give all your evidence to your insurer and let them sort it out, once the dust has settled and depending on the figures it might be worth repaying your insurer whatever they have paid out to recover your NCB

Hopefully it won't be too expensive a lesson

Thanks - I will send in the pictures and also the text message saying the repair would be £150 - hopefully she will have to explain the sudden difference in the cost of the repair.

Fingers crossed it won't affect my NCB as I am fully protected. When I renew next year if my premium has gone up, I shall pass the bill on to my other half to teach him a lesson

Unfortunately more times than not this is the reaction you get from posting on here. I think they are being mean and have no evidence of anything they accuse you of. Having had a similar experience myself I can sympathise. Of course the insurance will also just settle so frustrate you even more. It's a good job they weren't sitting in the car otherwise you might be seeing a whiplash claim winging your way. Mad world we live in.
[/QUOTE]=Terrysdelight;59757869]I am not arrogant and I am not tight-fisted. And you are bang out of order!!

I didn't cause the accident - the repair didn't warrant a £150 bill but had I had the chance - I would have paid it to avoid all this.

Unfortunately, some men are no good at dealing with things at the time and things get out of hand like this.

Unfortunately I agree with the claimer... If this had happened to me, I would need a garage who were willing to come and collect my car from my work place, repair it and return it back to me before 5pm. This may well cost £100 on top of any parts or labour, but if the accident was my fault, I wouldn't be put out one ounce.

If it was convenient for me to arrange it cheaper or take it elsewhere, i.e. if I had annual leave coming up I might make more of an effort to get a better deal. But if the at fault party wasn't up and coming with the most convenient way for me, I'd also go through insurance.

The 3rd party is also within their rights to claim any increased insurance costs back from you as well...

Yes, had there been anyone in the car - I'm sure there would have been a whiplash injury plus stress, trauma etc.

It's because of opportunists like this, insurance premiums have gone crazy.

I'm still a bit peeved with the other half for letting it get so out of hand - but never mind - worse things happen at sea.
  • New bumper is a possibility. You can have quite a low speed accident and knacker the inner bits of the bumper without there being massive external damage. So she may not be having you on.

At the end of the day, your OH was responsible for the damage. If you hadn't wanted to go through the insurers you should have settled, you didn't want to so it's gone to the insurers. Don't dig a hole for yourself saying the accident never happened to the insurers. Fess up and pay the price.

its unlikely your ins will go up that much, I (rather my darling father) had a small bump in my car last yr - the damage to the 3rd party car was a scratch on the bumper - I have my no claims protected - my ins at renewal went up £10, also when he renewed his insurance and he had to explain that he made claim on mine, his went up by about £6.
Shouldn't really make a major difference, - you can always shop around.

If the claim run into £1000+ thats when it tips the balance.

As for the bumper - going back to an accident I had in 1998, (non fault on mine), I had to get 3 quotes for the opposiate insurers, - one was Vauxhall garage (had vauxhall at time) the other quotes were local garages, - one garage recommended a new bumper, the other said they'd repair and paint think there was about £10 difference - the garage who suggested new bumper got the quote.

Thou wouldn't like to have been that persons insurers.....
    The third party driver he........
Bumped side of my car and the bumper
    Wrote off a parked van
Then ended up with his front end of the car in shop window, and back end during this lovely incident had dented the outer canopy poles which resulted in a 2nd broken shop window front..........

You got a reaction like that because you called the claimer a low life opportunist.

They are perfectly entitled to claim off your insurance .

You were given the chance to settle without involving insurance companies and blew it.

It does not matter how old their car is or how much it is worth, they are entitled to have it returned to it's pre-accident condition and who are you to judge how much that should cost .

By being an opportunist and haggling over £50 you have ensured that your insurance will cost more for the next few years.

You may not lose you no claims bonus but the premium will be loaded to reflect the accident.

You set the tone of the thread with your unnecessary language.

    You reap what you sow.

I think a few people are missing the very valid IMHO point that the OP actually informed the owner rather than just driving off as many others would have done.
They should be praised for that first & foremost.
They are reaping what they sowed all right; although they sowed good manners and seemingly have the reverse in return.

The most sensible thing to have done in hindsight was to leave a phone number and not swap any details at all and try to get the cash settlement arranged.

I do think from what we've heard however the claimant is taking the pee, however they have been put in a position where they can, it's irrelevant what the OP thinks of this or what the value of the car was/is.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

How much do you think a garage is going to charge to fit two parts?

It's not cheap and a garage will not fall over themselves for the business if you're expecting them to fit the parts for £50
