            10 days.
The house was wrong, too quiet. We went to rescue centre met a couple of single younger cats. No connection.
Then met 2 8 year old sisters, they chose us and came home with us that day. End of story.
Still miss Kitty, but adore these ones for being them.I do not make mistakes, I learn lessons.I work to live, not live to work.I love to live & live to love.Good enough is exactly that.0 -
My friend and her husband were devoted to their old cat and when she died some people were quite taken aback when they got a pair of rescue kittens a week later, but it was the best thing for them - the kittens weren't a replacement for the old cat but gave them a focus for their love and attention as they grieved for their old cat. It was lovely to go round and visit and see them laughing at the kittens playing after seeing them so devastated when they lost their old cat.
My cat is very old now - but Im planning a break from cats when he dies as I want to go travelling. Having said that I always keep an eye on the local rescue websites just in case.....0 -
I got my current dog the day after I had my previous dog PTS.
I knew a couple of days before he had to be PTS it was going to happen and so started looking for another dog then. It sounds harsh, but I wasn't looking to replace him. I just knew the house would be so quiet when he had gone, and I knew another dog would keep me busy and help me cope.
The new dog certainly keeps me busy!
He is nothing like my previous dog which means I don't feel he is a replacement, more like my next challenge!0 -
Our beautiful 5yr old staffy left our lives on 8th Feb this year when she was having an MRI scan, a large progressive tumour was found and when I got the call from the specialist, I just broke.
We thought she'd be diagnosed with canine epilepsy and get her back with ongoing treatment but sadly, and with one of the most heart wrenching things I've have to decide on, was let her go while she was anaesthetised.
Still feel upset typing this, she was unique and my two little girls miss her loads as we all do. Can't think of getting another one yet until I've got over the upset but we will definitely get another staffy at some point.
Wishing anyone going through the same as us all the best...0 -

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know something of what you are going through as we lost our beautiful cat during surgery after an MRI. I have been sitting here thinking how this time last week was the last night we spent with her, and I wish we had known so we could have said our goodbyes and treasured every moment. We never imagined she wouldn't be coming home, as I'm sure you didn't with your dog. The shock and sense of loss is truly horrific. Best wishes to you x0 -
When I lost my beloved dog Dobe, the only way I could cope was going to the dog pound and taking everything that was due to be pts that day. I knew I wouldn't keep all of them, but neutered them all, vacs etc, and rehomed some. I did itin memory of my old dog, seemed the most fitting tribute to him.
With having done rescue and spent many years rehoming, there is no right or wrong length of time before getting another cat. I've homed cats to people within a few days of them losing a beloved pet, and other people have waited up to 18 months. Grief hits everybody in a different way.DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED TO SAVE LIVES.0 -
We waited almost 5 years after our dog died before getting a rescue dog, It took us that long to shake off the feeling of being disloyal.0

We lost our beautifukl black lab to cancer in September 2012 and I cried every day for weeks and swore I would not go through it again. In December we picked up our new puppy and he is a complete joy. He is a small dog and totally different but loves us so much and we him. You have to go with what is right for you.Nothing is truly lost until your mum can't find it!0

My friend lost her 18 year old kitty to cancer after a long battle - that was on a Tuesday. By Friday she'd been to the shelter and found a new fur baby. She said the same words to me...that one day with no cat in my house was horrible.
I know from experience that no two pets are the same, they're always going to be different, but there are so many benefits - for the animals and for us!
If there's room in the house, there's room in the heart.
There was another element to the happy ending too - 6 months later she took on another stray and the new kitten is best pals with the now older boy.0
