Dell are worth looking at. They are pretty good quality, and also quite cheap at the moment.
Also worth a look is the Dell Outlet site. They sell computers that people have decided they didn't want, and sent back. They are nearly new, and also come with warrenties etc. I know of a few people who have purchased computers from here, and there have been no complaints.
Also, if you are a student, you may be able to take advantage of an 'education' purchase.
Hope this helps.
PS, you might find getting a PCMCIA WiFi card substantially cheaper. I use a Netgear WG511, which was a doddle to install, very reliable, good brand and also supports 802.11b and 802.11g (means it should be able to connect to anything).Organisation and planning are for those who can't handle stress and caffine

The Laptop are advertising in Snapfax so should technically have good deals for students.
And then there's always Dell who are doing the Inspiron 1000 for £349 just now... not sure if it's got inbuilt wifi though.0 -
ebuyer and dabs are always worth a look as they nearly always have a cheapish laptop or two availablethanks to everyone who has thanked me!0
