Better to wait until the official T&C's in long form are available. It's not clear whether the above means that you can make multiple deposits up until 30th May or whether you are only allowed one deposit which must be made by that date.

I was put off Santander initially due to comments here and in the press but I recently opened a 123 and really like it, the online banking is pretty excellent too. With the announcement of the Major ISA, Santander just keep going up in my estimation

Looks like upgrading to a 123 current account and transfering £60K into the new 3% ISA looks like a winner.

Even with £24 fee I should make this up with interest as I plan to also make use of the £20K @ 3%.

Like you, I was initially put off by the negative comments from MSEers and some of the Press. However, on closer examination, the vast majority of those comments were emotional rather than factual. None of the surveys has convinced me, either (about any bank).

I got quickly convinced by the 3.2% esaver, the 4% major ISA, and the 123 cashback/3% interest. That was a year ago, I put tens of £K into these, and never looked back. Of course, Santander isn't perfect but neither is any other bank.

Sadly, my esaver is coming to an end soon....but I'll think of something ;-), and my major ISA is still running for another 13 months. Won't be opening a new ISA at Santander this April since I still got life in my Flexclusive ISA for a few months but I would perhaps be tempted by the 3% Major ISA if I had to choose now.

Consider applying for a new 123 via Quidco - - should pay you an extra £55 if you do it properly.

I had a Britannia 2 year fixed ISA April 2010 - 2012 and Santander ISA, last April I transferred them both the Santander ISA @3.3% without any hassle. Just waiting to see what their new rate will be this year but wont transfer til my interest has been paid first.

Thanks! That will nicely cover the monthly fee for the next 2 years!

  • also transfer a couple of direct debits to the account to get cashback - if you're a homeowner even just council tax and energy will normally generate enough to cover monthly fee .... plus you can do SKY, mobile phone, landline and water
