I know it's a bit pedantic, but saying you'd "like to invite" someone isn't actually the same as "inviting" them...
We put 'request the pleasure of the company of ' I think0 -
Originally the evening invations were going to say "request the pleasure of the company of" (the daytime ones say this) but thought that since there was no buffet in the evening it was more of an informal affair so wanted informal invite wording.
Of course the groom wanted
bride and groom invite <guest> to party the night away in celebration of their marriage at blah blah. No food will be provided so make sure you eat well.
or words to that effect0 -
Hmm. Our evening invitations read:
[Bride's parents] request the pleasure of the company of [guest] at an evening reception to celebrate the marriage of their daughter [me] to [OH] at 7.30pm etc etc....
Made no mention of food or otherwise. We are having a buffet as it happens but didn't see the need to mention that.
Personally if I was being invited to something that started at 8pm I wouldn't expect to be 'properly' fed and would eat beforehand. I'm not really sure you need to mention food? If anyone is desperate to know they can ask?0 -

Sorry for not replying sooner - am off work sick today and have been asleep most of the day!
We haven't bought it yet but we had thought of the M&S one (£150) - think it feeds about 100. But we will look around to see if we can put one together ourselves for cheaper..0 -

Most people assume there will be a buffet, hog roast etc in the evening - so won't eat a full dinner before they go. If you're giving people less than that it's fair enough just to mention that they should eat beforehand - doubt anyone really minds - but nobody likes to be hungry at a wedding...0 -
