Hi all, my daughter and I have been following this forum for a couple of months now as she is getting married July this year and has had to needed to make savings where they can. We need a little advice regarding the evening invitations and wording. Due to lack of funds they may not be able to provide the ‘expected’ evening buffet so is looking at providing nibbles instead. They are hoping that they will be able to save enough for a buffet but are looking at alternatives just incase. They’re not sending their evening inviataions out until May so still have a bit of time but are looking for wording advice. So far we have come up with:
We are unsure as to which to use or if there is something better. We’ve tried looking on google but didn’t come up with much.
Any advice/opinions would be great.
Thank you

The first one's much better IMO, clearer and more concise.
I'm not keen on "an evening celebration", though...People know it's the evening they're invited to, by the time, so you don't need to say it.
Maybe something like "B&G invite <guest> to celebrate their marriage at <venue> on <datetime>" is simpler...0 -
What are the light nibbles going to be?0

yes, if nibbles are just some scattered peanuts, I'd leave them out, and just say cake would be provided.0

I like the first one better although I like the fact that you have clarified that it is just the evening...in my experience guests can be pretty dim!"More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0

I prefer this one but would probably go for:Bride and GroomWould like to inviteGuestto celebrate their marriage

Another vote for the first option. 'Light refreshments will be served' might be an alternative but I think what you have works well.
Congratulations and good luck to your daughter!0 -
Thank you all, we're not sure what the "nibbles" will be yet as they need to meet their wedding coordinator but I'm sure it won't just be peanuts .
I think they were hoping to put on a buffet but just a small buffet type thing, so the likes of onion bahji's, samosa's, sausage rolls, cheese and crackers but no sandwiches.0 -
Just to say good luck for July 13th- that's my DD's wedding day too. We are in a similar situation re food for evening but we are having a cake of cheese in addition to the wedding cake so are probably just going to offer cake and cheese for the evening with venue providing chutneys and crackers for the cheese.
No peanuts to be allowed as nephew has severe allergy and will react if they are even in the room!
Let's hope for a lovely sunny July 13th.0 -

Can I ask where you are getting the cheese from for your cake? It sounds like a lovely idea.
We really are hoping for some lovely weather even if it's only for the ceremony and photo's. Fingers crossed it's a beautiful day for them both0 -
I have done several cheese wedding cakes for friends and family and they seem to go down really well.....
In terms of price you can really get anything within whatever sort of budget you have....I did one which cost £145 but it was sourced from a local cheese shop and was enough to feed maybe 100 plus...
you can also do really good stacks of cheese from what they have on the supermarket deli counter...but if theres a particular cheese you need they might need a couple of days to order it in....they will probably be in the region of £80 or so depending on your choices of cheese.
usually you make the bottom layer the most popular cheese so go with something like a cheddar...the second layer maybe a stilton as thats still quite a popular and robust cheese that can take the weight of the others above it...then the top 2 can be softer...brie/camenbert...or something similar.
Add some breads, crackers, grapes, tomatoes ...maybe chutney/pickle and its almost a buffet in itself and really does go a long way....and can also make a lovely centrepiece to a buffet table.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0
