Zenshi when is the best time to plant seed potatoes? I am going to have a bash this year, they are so expensive to buy in the shops, even the market now.

If you buy them in a pack it'll tell you on the back!

If you decide to plant them in a bag/bucket/pot make sure there are holes in the bottom. Otherwise they will get water-logged, go mouldy and die. (Voice of experience!)

If you put crushed egg shells on top of the soil in your veg plot snails/slugs/cats will be less likely to visit.

Hello Mrs Cautious! I too have switched to Santander 123 account and got £12 from them last month due to my DDs inc mortgage, phone, fuel etc..! Makes a change for a bank to give us money, hey?
Decluttering really helps I think, as does simplifying things just as you are doing -i.e. get rid of cards you no longer need, use one form of payment (or cash!) , know exactly where your money is going (look through your statement, as you say, when it comes in, or check online!) and the other thing I did, which has really helped me is to unsubscribe from all sorts of email newsletters which tempt me to spend money on their "offers" (including holiday websites etc...).
    Good luck!!

Hey Mrs Dee, have you seen the grocery challenge in the Old Style forum and the NSD challenge on this one? They've really helped me think about ways to avoid splashing the cash x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

Just sticking my head in to say howdy after a weekend out.

My major horray moment was we finally managed to clear & cut up credit card 3. And if all goes well, should be able to pay down another chunk of CC2. We have got a lot of extras going out this month, which as I've already said is slightly annoying but cant be helped.

Dinner will be spag bol from the freezer tonight, and then I will need to stock up on veggies for tommorow, but should be ok for another low shopping spend week, which is very exciting as my last big shop was over 2 wks ago now and was for the princely sum of £66!! I remember how I felt at the time, wow how expensive, but given my 'big' shops used to cost over £100 in Sainsburys etc, and often closer to £200, that is a sign of my mentality changing dramatically.

Anyway. Good to read everyones updates. Zepsgal - Really sorry to hear you've been poorly. Thats never nice, especially on top of a funeral.

    Take care all.

    Hi all

Zepsgal - hope it's good news on the job front for you today, I'm rooting for you!!!

So today was my first day in our other branch. It was chaotic from the moment I walked in, managed to calm it down and get it under control by about 10ish and then we just bobbed along with the flow for the rest of the day. Day 2 tomorrow, and day 2 of driving 45 miles each way. This is a good indication of how far I am happy to travel for another job, that's about my limit!

    So today I have:-
    - Checked bank
    - Took packed breakfast, lunch and snacks
    - NSD
    - Quick tea and toast for "dinner" as I'm off out to play netball
    - Get a lift to netball, I will drive to the match on Wed and friend will drive to training tonight
    - Take my own water!
    - Have made my lunch for tomorrow already :A
    - Managed to NOT take a walk around town of other site, despite lots of funky shops, decided I might treat my trainee to lunch out on Friday
    - Drank copious amounts of free tea
    - Must remember to pack water bottle for tomorow
    - Sold a purge, though I won't claim the commission it keeps me in practice

Had an interesting discussion with OH last night, he wants a child within the next 3 years at the latest - which I am still slightly nervous about!

As I earn more than him I suggested he took the "maternity leave" instead of me. I'd need a month off at first to establish breast feeding and baby going onto a bottle but I wondered what people's opinion of this is?

I will catch up when I get home from netball at about 10 xxx
Nothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!

Josie I think definitely if that's what will work out best for you. You might actually want some time off though. Everyone I know who has had another one a little later has loved baby so much. But if that's what is in your best interests and you are both happy why the heck not!

Jose, how much time are you planning on taking off after the baby is born? Me and dh have spoken about this, I would take probably the 9 months max, and be back at work before the pay runs out. Dh would stay at home and work and watch the baby. He is training to be a stringed instrument maker, so hopefully something he can do at home/in the evenings when I'm home.

Can't think of anything smart to put here...

    Hi josie,

It is doable. I know a lady who returned to work when her youngest were 5 weeks and 6 weeks. She breast fed them until past 2 and co-slept to bank as many cuddles as possible and make night feeds as easy as possible.

Doable but hard. You would have to express a couple of times during the day at least to keep your milk supply up. That early on you will probably still be bleeding and if you have stitches you may still be sore.

If you possibly can I would definitely save for a while longer off, at least 12 weeks after birth, that is often the point when things are settling down a bit more, feeding will be well established etc.

Am in similar situation as earn way more than dh and it would make sense for me to be back at work asap but it was so precious to have the 9 months with dd and as a mum working ft I miss so much as it is (dh went pt to be home for her when I went back - his wages are so low that paid childcare would be nearly as much as he makes ft anyway).

Hence we are saving like mad things for number 2 (fingers crossed it works out).

Sorry, I sound like a right little ray of sunshine!! Just would hate for you to have to go back so quickly if you are not ready and there is any other way.

    Xx
