I've bought a few from them and no, never managed to haggle the screen price. I have found there is a bit of room for negotiations in terms of road fund license and any extras you might buy from them.

It's been a few years though so maybe their policy has changed or maybe I'm a bad negotiator! Good luck!

That is the issue i am normally very good at securing a deal,i have been a sales negotiator for 30 years, but i cannot get them to move a penny on this car, maybe it is a good deal and i will just have to concede this time.

You wont get any movement on price as thats not in their business model.

They often set their price to be the lowest in the area, I know some car supermarkets even use this as a marketing tool, stating they will match any price. But they will then usually insist on you paying an on the road package which will include a HPI check and some other bits and pieces.
This they will negotiate on as it is pure profit for them other than any tax which maybe needed but that's usually a separate extra. As they have to do a HPI check on the car to ensure they arent handling stolen goods or that the cars been written off.

I have to say some of the big players have it cracked - no discount then fleece you with overpriced tat you dont need. I was helping my uncle buy a merc there recently - the local stealer had added in £400 for paint protection, £400 for a warranty and £400 for RTI insurance and he wasnt even taking out finance!!!!

Contrast this to a small time trader like me - Freelander for sale at the minute, low miles, priced it at the lowest in the provence (i live in northern ireland), long MOT, just fully serviced, valeted it, so sitting perfect and faultless and on at £1995. Had a woman on asking would i knock £500 for 'cash'.

Firstly, how was she otherwise proposing paying, and secondly, how does she think, given its the cheapest already out there for the year, i've got an extra £500 of discount to throw away? Some people dont see that its better to get £75 off a car at £1995 than £500 off the same car advertised elsewhere at £2495 - and thats before you take into account mine is the better car.

It's really annoying isn't it Paul, human nature is to want to knock something off the price no matter what - if you were asking £500 she'd offer you £400!

I'm surprised at your misunderstanding of RTI though mate, it's not related to finance - it's purely getting back all of your money if the car is written off, so you can buy a replacement (there is a type that simply settles finance, but most buyers opt for full Return To Invoice).
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

Motorpoint don't mark the cars up very much at all, they make their money on the finance, extras and reselling p/x's to the trade, so there's hardly any chance of getting money off the windscreen price.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

True, though its most often sold on the back of a finance agreement.

Quite. The speed with which they shift cars is astonishing. I've always had good experience with Motorpoint, and for me I like the fact they don't budge on price because their prices are rock bottom anyway. Ignore any extras they offer you and you will get a good deal.

I think a lot of the problems lie in that people want to have their cake and eat it - Rock bottom prices, but thoroughly prepared cars and A1 customer service.

Unfortunately these are pretty much mutually exclusive.
