A friend of mine has cover under motor trade insurance which also covers him for personal and leisure journeys. He wants to know, if has been under this policy for many years, and then changes job and so has to go under normal personal car insurance, will his experience be taken into account by the new insurance company, or will it start from the very highest of prices and him be considered as a brand new driver? He has always only been on trade insurance since he had his first job but he is covered for personal activity too (currently).

Don't think you can use Motor Trade no claim proof, when you transfer to a private policy. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

Tell him to go on a comparison sites. He will be asked
How long have you held a licence
Have you had any claims in the last five years
How many years NCB do you have
The last one will be zero but the first two mean that his experience will be taken into account0 -

If this happens, then he will have nil ncd to transfer.
He can try a local broker (not swinton) who should be able to get him an introductory discount to reflect his claim free driving experience.0 -
Mate had the same issue, Transferred car no claims to a trade policy.
Couldnt find anyone that would transfer it the other way though.
Hard to start with zero no claims. He put the car in his wifes name.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
