I am using MSN messenger which is closing soon, I was thinking of loading Skype to communicate to friends via computers, I am told there is one hour free per MONTH and if I go over that there is a charge, I would not be talking just typing, but someone else is telling me it is free, is there someone who can confirm which is correct. Perhaps in the future it would be nice to see the person and talk, so is there a charge for this?

You only need to pay if you are going to call phonelines, Skype to Skype is free, voice, video or text typing.
You need a webcam for video obviously, if for voice only then a headset with mike is useful.
