Sorry if has been mentioned before. I just feel it's important to help spread the warning.

I totally agree more people should know about this.
I'm lucky that although I've been plagued with cold sores every time I've gotten a cold since I was a child, my sons were born with immunity.
I read a similar story in a Pick-me-up type mag in the doctor's a few years back when I was pregnant, and couldn't believe I'd never heard of it before.

I was covered in cold sores when my son was born, and even though he probably would have been born with an immunity as i have been getting them for years i was warned by the midwife straight away, that i must not kiss him and must be very careful about washing my hands etc before touching him until they had disappeared.

I feel so sorry fr this couple, the risk should be a lot more well known as i know some people who do not think that they are contagious.

This is very sad but something that should be told.
Seven years ago, my twins were born 4 weeks premature and were in SCBU for 2 weeks. During that time we were encouraged to handle and cuddle them as much as possible.
I hope this gets the publicity it deserves.
  • Oh how sad! :-(

I had never heard of this before. Knew coldsores related to herpes virus but never occurred to me could kill a baby :-(
