Brother Defaulted on his Egg in 2006 and now wants a Barclaycard !!

My brother has a Barclays current account, the full account with a cheque book etc, but he now wants a Barclaycard.

Now normally I think that would be okay, but he had a Egg card which he defaulted on in 2006, and on his credit report it was listed as a Barclaycard when they took them over a few years back. This has now vanished from his credit report as it is over 6 years, but he is still repaying the debt to a debt collection firm (Not Barclaycard themselves), and has been when it was still Egg.

He now wants to apply for a Barclaycard, but I have told him that they will still know about it and refuse him, he says they wont as it is no longer on his credit report and it was actually a Egg card anyway.

Who is right ?.

Hi, Yes same address. Got him to try it and got thanks but no thanks, now he has recently got a credit card from his other bank, with a high limit (Or at least its high tome at £9,235), and his file with all three cra's is clear, so I guess the reason for the thanks but no thanks is that they know.

In addition (Just my thoughts) is that he should not keep a balance in his Barclays current account as surly they could swipe that to pay of his old egg card, since egg was taken over by Barclays.

stupid really to try if he still owed them money, also have to ask would you lend to him again if he did it to you?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

From what you posted earlier, it sounds more like the debt has been bought by some DCA scum.
The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.
