Holidays alone

The last time I booked a package holiday (even as a family) was in 2004. I always DIY it if I'm going as a single adult, or one adult and children.0

.Please forgive if this question has been asked once too often. I am a single (nearly 50) woman. And going on holiday by myself just seems to be a nightmare. Im either offered the choice of going with other single groups or people, or being shoved in a tiny single bedroon with a single bed (why when im an adult is beyond me). Or I can share a double room with a complete stranger, or I pay a hefty single supplement.
All I want, is to do some travelling by myself, to please myself. Any suggestions or experiances would be so very welcome.

Hi Leigh,
How long can you escape for?
What sort of holiday would you feel satisfied with?
Some want adventure,
Some want to lie on the beach all day and cook themselves red.
Some want to explore cities and countries that will have them talking about for years.
What about a trip around China?
Perhaps 3-4-5 cities in China?
Overnight trains to the next city.
Engage in fascinating conversation with Chinese you would love to talk the legs off you, just to interact with you "from England"
Look for images of Wangfujing Street in Beijing.
Silk market
Beijing Hutongs,
Houhai Lake in Beijing just for starters.
Shanghai Bund
Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower
Xi'an Teracotta army, wild goose pagoda, drum tower, bell tower.
Plus so many places that westerners never get to hear about.
Look for images of Yantai Seafront, Yantai Shan, again look the images.
As Qingdao was the German base, a hundred years ago, did you know that Britain also had a base, very close also, called Weihai?
Another beautiful sea side city.
Qingdao German brewery tours
Guilin River Li cruises.
You could even visit Weifang, were we live, and see the World famous Kite festival.
Look on Google images for Weifang Kite festival
There is so much about China that the west has no idea about
Harbin Tiger Park - Google images
Harbin Ice and Snow festival - too late this year, but may be another year look the Google images.
Guangzhou, Pearl river cruise - again look the Google images.
Chengdu, go see the pandas,
Tiger Leaping Gorge, over the Yangtze.
How about the beautiful Mount Tai in Taishan, just an hour from us on the fast train.
At your young age, you can walk up, and cable car down.
Hotels, doesn't matter 1 person or two people, same price.
Generally about £25 a night except Shanghai and Beijing where you will pay £30 a night.
Be adventurous !!
Once you accept the number of people here, in my city, we are a 3rd tier city, and we have 10 million people, yes its busy.
But a will cry the day I leave China and need to move back to UK.
Oh, and when your in Beijing, don't forget to go to, can't remember the name off the top of my head, but they serve delicious "Beijing Duck"
I could go on for hours !
